About our opportunity:

The Maintenance Manager would assist the Operations Manager with the overall responsibility for Maintenance activities on-site including but not limited to: projects, purchasing, installation, team management, commissioning, fault finding and site facilities.

Ensuring that plant is running at an optimum level, minimising downtime and achieving all internal maintenance demands, in an effective and timely manner, in a way that minimises costs and maximises efficiencies through the supervision of a multi-disciplinary team. The site and facilities are kept cost effective and to the required standard.

  • To provide a service function within the organisation through utilisation of best practise techniques, development of continuous improvement initiatives and participation in improvement activities.
  • To help develop, introduce and maintain preventative, predictive and autonomous maintenance techniques to improve equipment availability and reliability.
  • Facilitate the implementation of a planned preventative maintenance system with previous experience of such systems.
  • To manage the maintenance team to provide engineering support to all departments and processes to achieve their business goals, productivity standards and customer requirements.
  • To provide engineering support/ guidance to all areas and functions of the business, primarily in the disciplines of:

Health and Safety

Environmental

  • To ensure compliance at all times with Company policies, procedures, rules and Legislation including but not limited to Health and Safety and environmental  requirements.
  • Assume total responsibility for all aspects of department/ contractor H&SE, including risk/ COSHH/ safe systems of work etc.
  • To liaise and communicate with other departments / shifts / areas of the business, constantly focusing on continuous improvements and efficiencies
  • To negotiate, liaise and manage contractors whilst on site.
  • Managing the budget of the department, seeking reductions in cost at all times whilst achieving value and quality.
  • Assess current and seek to establish preferred suppliers for services and contracts.
  • Create an efficient and effective inventory of site held spares and consumables.
  • To be responsible for or support the project management of capital equipment introduction and modifications to existing processes and equipment to ensure on time in budget delivery.
  • Develop and maintain site and equipment drawings.

What you will be doing:

  • To review and assess current maintenance practices, implementing continual improvement initiatives, ensuring that service levels afforded to our internal customers are maintained at a high level
  • Compilation of reports including but not limited to: fault repairs, PPM, Lost time reports, breakdown reports and expenditure
  • Managing a maintenance team ensuring that they are all working to their best ability in line with business objectives and targets
  • Ensuring that team are trained in all aspects of their work, managing performance through training, coaching, mentoring, praise, feedback and reward or managing underperformers through informal and formal discussions in conjunction with the HR department
  • Ensure that the purchase of parts, PPE, consumables and services
  • Attend team meetings and team briefings when required
  • To manage the site environmental requirements
  • To provide accurate feedback regarding machinery that is faulty/broken to all relevant parties ensuring that others can plan accordingly
  • To be responsible for successfully implementing a maintenance system, predictive and preventative plant maintenance and own the plans
  • To ensure that team comply with all applicable H&S and Engineering based legislation and company rules
  • To attend training courses to develop your skills further
  • To monitor and review the maintenance work carried out by your team
  • Assisting with the management of manning levels, recruitment requirements and selection process
  • The management of anomalies, O/T approval and holidays.
  • Assisting with managing all personnel related issues, in conjunction with the HR department (for example: disciplinary, welfare, performance review)
  • Ensure that you help your team achieve targets, yields, specifications and quality standards by performing your tasks with the greatest care and attention
  • Ensure that machinery and services are maintained to meet individual department’s requirements, utilising the most appropriate and efficient maintenance regime. Reporting any faults to the Manager immediately
  • Operating machinery and equipment only when trained, including start-ups, shut downs and maintaining operations at the agreed level, maximising productivity
  • Conducting appropriate checks on machinery/equipment and random auditing.
  • To ensure that the machinery and equipment used is of a safe standard, acting upon any malfunctions, missing components (for example guards and screens) and  immediately planning rectification and a safe working practice
  • To ensure that you and your team wear the correct PPE at all times when performing operations in any area of the plant
  • To assist fellow work colleagues and working together with other areas/teams and departments to ensure that overall business objectives and targets are reached
  • To report all near misses, accidents and faulty equipment/machinery , or to the Health & Safety Advisor immediately via the Event Log
  • Suggesting improvements to work practices, machinery operation and services to improve the plant operating efficiency.
  • Create and maintain an efficient and effective inventory of site held spares
  • Effective implementation of accepted changes to working practices, contributing continuously to improvement programmes when required.
  • Working with external contractors to achieve effective and efficient maintenance and service of machinery and building when required, including the issuing of any permit to work as required by company procedures.
  • To communicate effectively and accurately any information about stock requirements and usage to the Engineering Stores person
  • Assume responsibility for contractors including HS+E, risk/COSHH and safe systems of work etc
  • To ensure the daily workload is achieved to your best ability, as set by the Manager and communicate the daily priorities
  • To provide accurate feedback regarding machinery that is faulty/broken to all relevant parties ensuring that others can plan accordingly
  • To ensure that the machinery and equipment used is of a safe standard, reporting any malfunctions, missing components (for example guards and screens) immediately to your Line Manager
  • Develop and maintain site and equipment drawings
  • Maintain, develop and update on a daily basis visual management boards and give daily briefing to staff
  • To ensure that all workshops and the site are clean and tidy and to a 5S standard
  • To undertake pre and post work/repair inspection
  • To ensure cover for Planner when not available

 

About you:

  • 5 years maintenance background or equivalent
  • Previous experience in preventative and/or predictive maintenance is required
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Computer Literate, including maintenance system experience, MS Word, Excel, email and preferably the use of a company IT system
  • Experience of working with mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Previous experience of department / Team administration
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure

Preferred background; heavy industry/mining/quarrying.
